It seems like forever since last summer but the festival season is now well and truly upon us
We're blessed in the south that we've got so many great festivals nearby. So here a few of the better ones taking place before the end of May.
New to the local scene yet run by the people bringing you the most excellent Bestival and Camp Bestival, common people promises a wide ranging and eclectic mix of music and dance.
Picks for me are Slaves, Cuban Brothers, Sean McGowan and De La Soul but there's a literal shed load of stuff going on.
The do takes place on May 24th and 25th and costs the not large amount of £55 for the weekend. Sounds like a deal to me. Tix here http://commonpeople.net/tickets
Another thing that Dorset is famous for is the second best countryside in the UK and what better way to experience it than with a trip out to Stuminster Newton for a great music and cider festival?
Opening its doors on the 15th for a three day soundfest the line up includes festival favourites Black Water County, Skimmity Hitchers and Pronghorn and fro fans of skanking The Guns of Navarone and Skoisters.
Only £49 including camping you'll need to get in quick as they are only licenced for 400 souls. Tix here http://www.cursusfestival.com/
If you're looking for the very best value festival around then the Gunstone Gathering based just outside Wimborne is the one for you.
Tickets cost only a fiver each day but there's no lack of quality on show with local favourites the Worry Dolls, Black Water County and Empire Affair on show together with a ton of other bands.
This is a really friendly and uncomplicated festival which we love very much and should be on every local music lovers' list.
The Gunstone Gathering takes place 30th & 31st May Tix here http://www.gunstonetrust.org/frames/events.htm
