Our picks of the month

Our picks of the month

July is a really busy month and there's loads to choose from round town. Here we present what we think are the best of the best.

Follow us on facebook and twitter for the best in reviews and pics of local live bands

As always check with the venue before travelling as there may be time changes/cancellations

The Worry Dolls

On Friday 4th we have the wonderful Worry Dolls over at The Winchester in Bournemouth.

The dolls have been working really hard over the summer and the results are clear to see with a tight and professional set.

Fronted by the lovely Emma Baldry the dolls provide a mix of high powered soul with indie beats and guitars and even a purple violin.

For lovers of Aretha Franklin, The Commitments, Wilson Picket

The Decatonics

If you're a lover of ska and bluebeat then The Decatonics are doing Mr Kyps on Friday 11th

One of the better local two tone emulators they do a very enjoyable set of ska both old, new, traditional and with a modern twist.

Put on your dancing shoes and your pork pie hat and get along to Mr Kyps.

For lovers of The Selector, The Specials, Bad Manners, Dandy Livingstone

Grooves on the Green

The big event locally this month has to be Grooves on the Green.

In it's 14th year this mini fest gets better and better with 2 stages of great acts, poetry, beer, bouncy castles, face painting and food.

The event takes place across 2 days (12th & 13th) and ends at a family friendly time of 7pm

Local favourites such as Soulhole, Wikkaman, Mother Ukers, Magna Rose and Guns of Navarone appear and there are tons more. You can find the Day 1 line up here and Day 2 line up here

It's only £5 to get in per day and free entry for under 12s.

Black Water County

On the 26th The awesome Black Water County roll up at The Cranleigh Arms in Southbourne.

BWC are big on numbers, sound and energy - you can expect some serious pub/folk/rock dancing type music.

County are a great fun band and I've yet to see a disappointing gig, you can also typically expect a good crowd of enthusiastic fans and mates creating a great atmosphere. They do a natty line in quality merch too!

Very much loved in G&B towers (but not in a creepy way) Black Water County are one of the bands to watch around town and it's only a matter of time before you can't get tickets for one of their gigs. Get in now!
