Purbeck Folk Festival Preview

Returning for a sixth year the Purbeck Folk Festival brings an eclectic mix of local, national and international stars.

Gigsandbands.com have been invited over to cover the whole event and internet allowing we'll be tweeting and posting until you're heartily sick of us.

Here we present our picks of what promises to be a busy but ultimately satisfying bank holiday weekend

Friday kicks off the festival with a great mix of old and new delights.

Three times BRIT award winner Eddi Reader headlines and no doubt the ex-fairground attraction songstress will be giving us some new stuff from her new EP.

JCB band Nizlopi are also on the bill on Friday which we are particularly looking forward to.

Alongside these luminaries we also have home favourites Tim Somerfield, Drew Allen, Beth Johnstone and the Jack Ratts as well as tons of other bands that I can't be bothered to google.

Friday is looking like a great start to the weekend so get there early and take advantage of the beer festival.

Saturday looks like a cracking day with The South, Idlewild and Gigspanner all of which we like and will be watching.

Local acts include the magnificent and not a little barking Mother Ukers ably assisted by Kadia and the lovely Kaia Viera

My pick of Sunday is most deffo Coco and the Butterfields. They are awesome. Sort of folky indie but with beatboxing and mucho jumping around these are ones not to miss.

Honourable mentions go of course to Lloyd Cole, Blair Dunlop and Caravan of Theives.

Do not however miss the excellent Fearne or indeed Will McNicol.  Also holding up the local music end of the deal are Kadia, Jimmy Hillbillies & Krista Green

Did I mention there's a beer festival?
