Scout Hut launch party

We love getting invitations to go places and seeing a brand new band launch is always a joy...

Blueline studios tucked away just off the Triangle was the venue for an 'intimate' and chilled out launch for new blues rock band Scout Hut.

Seeing a new band hit the road is always great but even more so since it's been a long time since I last saw chief protagonist Dan Cook with The Cramatics.

Filling the space squarely a fairly in the Eric Clapton/Cream genre the chaps chose the back rehersal room at Blueline (formerly the church scout hut - geddit?) to play to a specially invited audience. It's a really tidy room and the perfect space for rehearsing, either a band or a solo act.

The evening kicked off with an excellent acoustic set by Alex Tompkins which certainly set the tone for what turned out to be a very friendly evening.

A short break and a chance to sample a rather excellent craft beer and some rather yummy delicacies prepared by Stan's lovely partner and it was time for SH to kick off.

Now, I need to get my excuses for the photography in early. It's a smallish room and the light wasn't brilliant. Absolutely fine for people and musicians ( you know musicians aren't people right?) but no good for photographers.

Having said that it was the right place for a soft launch and the chaps; Steve Coates on lead and vocals, Stan Majerski on Bass and vox and Dan Cook on Drums and vox seemed well at home.

The first half was over before I knew it. A sure sign that we'd been enjoying the  music and it included probably the  highlight for me, a rendition of the Robert Johnson classic 'crossroads'.

More beer and nibbles and the chance to get some air on what was a hot hot hot June evening and the second half was under way with the guys having a chance to show their range and that they have great taste in music.
We went on a musical odyssey through Bill Withers and Stevie Wonder via The Beatles but all given the Scout Hut blues treatment.

All too soon it was over but not before the punters demanded (demanded I say) an encore.

I fine night from a fine new band on the Bournemouth live music scene, and certainly one to be experienced when they appear at a venue near you.
